KITCHEN REMODEL DESIGN PLANS & CABINET INSTALL - PROJECT HAVERSACK

KITCHEN REMODEL DESIGN PLANS & CABINET INSTALL - PROJECT HAVERSACK

Design is a process. It's a fine dance (especially for remodels) between a whole lot of things, particularly the existing space, the structure, and the clients' needs and budget.

Although we explored a bunch of different design options for the project, and even more than I'm showing here, in the end the clients decided that they really did love the lay-out of their kitchen. It had served them well for over thirty years, so with that decision we focused on ways we could improve and update the space while keeping the layout basically the same.

PROPOSED CHANGES

  • On the top of the list was to remove the existing soffit. This would allow the ceiling height to go from 7'-0" to standard height of 8'-0".
  • Recess the refrigerator a few inches and add side panels to make it less obtrusive and have more of built-in look.
  • New recessed lighting throughout.
  • Increase the counter space on each side of the stove top by extending the length of the cabinets.

Now for a progress tour...did you get a chance to see the demo'ed kitchen before build back?

HOOD DESIGN

As is typical, I provided lot's of different hood design options, some straight, some tapered, and some curved...this one turned out to be the clients' favorite...

DESK CABINET OPTIONS

To the right of the hood and past the door leading into the formal dining room there was a built-in desk that had become a bit of a catch-all so we explored different cabinet designs for that space too.

GENERAL CONTRACTORS & THEIR CREWS

Behind the scenes of any successfully executed design project is a general contractor with a crew of subs that are hard working, skilled and masters at their crafts. And this project is no exception to that. Hats off to David Greenetz and crew.

THE TAKE AWAY

  • When redoing a kitchen, even if you don't plan to make big changes, look for ways where the space can be improved besides just updating the cabinets and finish materials.
  • Take the time to explore cabinet design options, especially for those that are features cabinets.
  • Look for places where you might be able to extend the cabinet runs for increased counters and storage space.
  • Increase the vertical space by eliminating soffits.
