KITCHEN PHOTO TOUR - PROJECT MODERN OAK
No two projects are the same, and we like it that way! It keeps things fresh and interesting. Our design style is as broad as our clients’ taste.
With Project Modern Oak the client wanted a modern home with clean lines and simplicity - interpreted in a warm and inviting way.
KITCHEN PHOTO TOUR
THE TAKE AWAY
If there was any doubt that a modern home can feel warm and inviting, Project Modern Oak definitely shows otherwise.
Did you notice that in the kitchen we mixed metals by pairing brushed nickel with a deep bronze, that’a almost black metal. This helps to create a warm an inviting appeal.
Let’s talk about wood cabinets paired with wood flooring.
In choosing the stain for the cabinets, we first started with the wood flooring. The clients had seen the exact flooring in a model home and knew that it was just what they wanted. From a design point of view, I was pleased with all the different textures, and hues within the wood selection because of the flexibility and leeway it provided with choosing cabinet stain.
When pairing wood flooring to stain for cabinets, please, please don’t try to match them exactly. That will create a dull, cave-like atmosphere. The goal should be to either go darker, or lighter than the wood flooring. If you want to go darker, pair the stain to the darker low-lights in the wood flooring. For lighter cabinets pair the stain to the highlights within the wood flooring, like we did with this project.
STYLIZING FAVORITES FOR MODERN KITCHENS
Stylizing accessories, when done well, add so much warmth and personality to a space. For this project, we kept it simple and let the architecture, colors and finish materials shine.
As is always, when stylizing kitchens, I like to include things that are practical like dishes, woven baskets, cookbooks and textiles.
Speaking of textiles, have you checked out Kristi’s vintage rug collection at Olio Collective? I have had the good fortune to have her rugs model for a couple of our photo shoots, including this one. And as you can see, they are stunning. I even have a couple of her rugs in my own house, and I absolutely love them!
In the next day, or so, I’ll be sharing more Project Modern Oak photos of the great room, dining and entry. Check back, you won’t want to miss it. To see other post about this project, go here, here & here.
